The Malaysian.

Got a pleasant surprise by the malaysian when he called from England last night. He's in Durham University studying law right now. There's this thing about law and debaters.

Malaysian was my jc debate soc friend. I call him "malaysian" because he is a patriotic malaysian. He even contemplated hanging the malaysian flag on malaysia's national day. His father's common sense stopped him. Thank goodness.

Anyway, he called. We talked about his love life, about God, and the sudden realization that jc was half a decade ago. Five years ago, i would never in my wildest imagination think that malaysian would come to believe in God. Even after giving him a Bible. Miracles do happen.

And i've never heard him speak that much mandarin. Here's some background: Besides championing the entire nyjc cohort in GP, our dearest malaysian had also managed the lowest score in Chinese.

I can still remember what he wrote for one of his Chinese essays, back in nyjc:

「她把她自己丟在我身上。」
What he wanted to say was, "She threw herself at me." LOL.

And it doesn't seem like his Chinese has improved much after five years.

On the topic of God, he said, 「我開始相信有天。」
"What, you are starting to believe that there is a sky?"
Then he started explaining that in Chinese dramas they always say, 「天啊!」 and the translation says, "Oh, God!" So 天 = God. o.0

And in trying to describe his friend, he said, 「球房跳舞員」.
I took a while to figure what it was.
He meant his "ballroom dance partner." Lol.

Anyway i had a good chat (and laugh) with this dear friend of mine. He's in love with England so i'm not sure if he'll return after graduating next year. Hope his next love wouldn't be so "treacherous." Lol.
